Casa Ferreirinha Description
An intense and very complex aroma of dried fruits, almonds and hazelnuts, with floral notes of lavender, and hints of cedar and menthol followed by additional notes of black fruit and very high-quality oak. Full-bodied and smooth, with lively, well-integrated tannins and further notes of flowers and black fruit that invite a finish of great elegance and longevity.
Vinified at the Quinta da Leda winery from 100% estate grapes. After total destemming and soft crushing, the grapes are transferred to stainless steel tanks (90%) and lagares (10%), where maceration and alcoholic fermentation take place. Maceration is adapted to each grape variety for an average of 8 days in controlled temperatures between 82 - 86°F. Pumping over techniques are also tailored to each variety’s individual characteristics.
41% Touriga Franca, 34% Touriga Nacional, 13% Tinto Cao and 12% Tinta Roriz.
Since 1751, the Ferreira name has been synonymous with high-quality Portuguese wines. The first Portuguese owned Port house, its history is intertwined with the the evolution of the Douro Region and its wines.
The story of Ferreira is inextricably associated with one extraordinary woman. Daughter of one of the company’s founders, Dona Antónia Adelaide Ferreira was born in the country town of Régua, gateway to the wines of the Douro Valley, in 1811. Though small in stature and reserved by nature, Dona Antónia was charismatic, visionary and entrepreneurial. She created new expanses of terraced vineyards and improved the hard lives of local farming families. The local people’s affectionatley called her ‘A Ferreirinha’ – ‘the little Ferreira’. When ‘The Ferreirinha’ died in 1896, she left behind a portfolio of great Douro estates and an immensely successful business.
