A dark garnet core with a brooding cardinal rim, the 2022 Palermo opens with notes of crunchy cassis, muddled boysenberry, ripe elderberry chapparal and cedar. The palate continues many of the aromatics with traces of cassis, black berry, savory and thyme. Effuse with ripe dark fruits but also complex savory tones, the wine closes with long and soft tannin chains and hints of licorice, black pepper and star anise.

Palermo is our ode to the ubiquitous Cabernet Sauvignon from the Napa Valley and continues the tradition of being representative of the entire region. A portrayal of the patchwork of different vineyards, unique AVAs and regional microclimates, the wine is both classically Cabernet Sauvignon and signature Orin Swift. Sourcing fruit from across the valley, we’re able to produce Cabernet lots of varying styles: dark and concentrated lots from the warmer are as of Napa to a more savory style from the cooler sites. Once blended, they marry their strengths together to show off this in credible region.

Originally, Palermo was composed of whatever Cabernet Sauvignon didn't make its way into Mercury Head, but now it is a separate program, although it does include press wine from all of Orin Swift's Cabernet lots. The 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon Palermo features gentle herbal nuances, redcurrants and cherries on the nose, while the full-bodied palate is soft, velvety and warm. Anticipated Maturity: 2024-2030
