The wine is straight out of the textbook for Pinot Noir. Slightly earthy nose with aromas of juicy, fresh plums, cherries, raspberries, a hint of cassis, soft, dense and fruity on the palate.

The Santenay "Clos de Saint-Jean" is a new wine in Philipp Colin's range. The plot is located within the "Grand Clos Rousseau" and is named after the village church "Saint Jean", which is located on the hill above Santenay. The vines were planted around the turn of the millennium and are on clay and limestone soil, resting on limestone.

There is an interesting if vague hint of peat character to the more deeply pitched red and dark currant scents that are cut with plenty of earth. The sleeker and finer though surprisingly less concentrated flavors exude evident minerality on the youthfully austere and moderately firm finale. This delicious effort could easily be approached young if desired. Drink: 2026+
