Black currant, plum, and blackberry are intertwined with savory bay leaf, cedar, loam, and black volcanic spice. There’s an incredible perfume of rose petals, violets, lavender, star anise, steeped hibiscus tea, and nag champa. Gorgeous fruit explodes on the palate, coating the mouth in sumptuous black plum and berries. Beautifully supple mountain tannins and lovely acidity frame the dense fruit for a perfect balance of hedonism and finesse. The finish is long and layered, with classic Pride garrigue adding savory intrigue that whispers of our mountaintop flora.
Pride Mountain Vineyards sits high atop Napa Valley’s Spring Mountain, at the site of the historic Summit Ranch, where wine grapes have been grown since 1885. At the crest of the Mayacamas Mountains, we are on the Napa-Sonoma county line. For this reason, our wines often carry a Napa-Sonoma designation. Most of the wines are estate, but because we rest in two AVAs, we may not use the “Estate” moniker on our wines. Far from regional blends, Pride wines are emblematic of our mountaintop terroir and unique position both within two counties and also as a place unto ourselves.
52% Sonoma, 48% Napa
87% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Petit Verdot, 4.5% Merlot, 1.5% Cabernet Franc aged for 20 months in 50% new French oak.
A wild and wonderful abundance of floral aromatics jumps from the glass of this powerfully structured wine. Sure, there are also currant and plum aromas on the nose as well juicy berry fruit and a nice streak of acid to balance the tannin on the palate but please, take time to stop and smell the flowers. -T.R.C
The 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon saw approximately 50% new French oak, but it comes across as substantially less voluptuous than either the Franc or the Merlot. Cassis and redcurrants marry easily on the nose of this medium to full-bodied wine, which finishes crisp and dusty. With its linear structure, pair it with rare beef or lamb if serving the wine young. Anticipated Maturity: 2024-2035
